Camping

Bike Virginia offers a unique combination of choices for our riders. You can camp or lodge in a hotel, inn or bed and breakfast.

See all the details of the camping options below. Our tour location for 2014 is the region from Chesterfield to Williamsburg, Virginia and surrounding communities.

For 2014 we will have just 2 host locations, Headquarters 1 and Headquarters 2. Unlike other tours such as GOBA, Bike Florida, Ride the Rockies, Cycle Oregon, and Cycle North Carolina we offer unique riding every day without having to move camp over and over and over. For 2014 the camp locations are:

NOTE: For those who plan to arrive early, you may stay at the park on Thursday night but you will have to stay in the Park’s campground and then move to the Bike VA camp area, as we do not have permission to camp in our area until Friday at 10am.  You can book your campground spot directly through the park…  http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/pocahontas.shtml

Outdoor Camping

Camping is a favorite of Bike Virginia riders.

Camping is a favorite of Bike Virginia riders.

Most Bike Virginia cyclists camp each night on the grounds of Event Headquarters (see addresses above). Camping is a fun way to spend time with other cyclists. Don’t worry though, our camping areas are quiet and restful. We have quiet hours from 10pm to 6am.

  • You will need to bring your own tent and camping gear unless you book a tent reservation with a camping service.
  • Camping gear and other belongings must be completely contained in a maximum of two bags weighing no more than 50 lbs each. We are not responsible for damage to camping gear occurred during handling.
  • Cooking is not allowed in the camping areas for fire and hygiene reasons. You may have a cooler, but we do not transport coolers on our gear trucks.
  • You may bring a shade canopy, but please respect the space of other campers. Shade canopies will count as a bag of your camping luggage and must meet weight regulations. We are not responsible for damage to canopies (Ez-Ups or other types).

Assisted Camping

A mobile camping service will be provided on Bike Virginia by Padre’s Cycle Inn. This rental service will save you time and energy at the camping area by allowing them to do the work for you. In addition to supplying you with the camping basics, they will also set up and tear down your camp when we relocate. See more details at Padre’s Website.

Cycling Logistics is also a great option for enhancing your camping experience. They have been providing baggage transport and other popular daily services to its customers since 1999.

Indoor Camping

We will not be able to offer indoor camping in 2014. Due to the preferred venue type of our participants we will no longer be staying in schools. You may wish to consider assisted camping or hotels instead.

RV Camping

Limited space is available for RV’s at Event Headquarters.  For 2014 all RV’s will be booked directly through the host site parks. See information on booking here..

Camping Luggage Services

Luggage will be transferred at no cost for camping cyclists. We will move your camping gear from one Headquarters to the next and back again for free.  We have a 50lb weight limit per bag and a limit of 2 bags per rider. We do not transfer EZ-UP style canopies or chairs due to potential damage that can occur.
