Hello Bike Virginians! It sounds like many of you are traveling into the area on Thursday night, June 19. [caption id="attachment_7034" align="alignright" width="300"]It takes lots of room to maneuver these guys into place! It takes lots of room to maneuver these guys into place![/caption] If you need camping accommodations for Thursday you must book through the Pocahontas State Park reservation system and camp only in the designated campground on Thursday night. No camping will be allowed in the event area, only our vendors will be allowed in that area to set up their equipment. On Friday morning June 20 you will be allowed to enter the camping area at 10am when the event officially opens. We ask that you please respect this request, the park is very rigid about their allowed usage of the event space. And we must allow space for our vendors to bring in truckloads of equipment across the fields that are used for group camping. Thanks for your understanding on this. We're just as excited to get started as you are! To view information about the park's regular campground visit Wishing you safe and fun travels as you drive, ride, and fly to Bike Virginia, Dr. Kim Perry, Executive Director

[gallery ids="8366,8365,7442,7439,8369,8368"] Bike Virginia relies on a team of over 200 volunteers to make our event great. Without all the loving energy that volunteers bring to the event the ride would not be possible.   Our way of saying Thank You to our volunteers is with Bike Bucks. For every hour you help at the event, we give you a $10 Bike Buck credit which can be used toward purchases in the Bike Virginia store for some of our great merchandise or toward registration for an upcoming event. There are tons of interesting and fun things you can do to help support the event. Right now we need help in the following areas for the 2014 bike event:

  • Check-in
  • Safety Briefing
  • Route Monitors
  • Parking
  • General Headquarters Support
Read descriptions of these roles here... Thanks for considering becoming a part of the Bike Virginia Family!

The Board of Directors for Bike Virginia have elected a new Chair to lead the organization's overseeing board. Peggy White will become the organization's first ever woman Chair. Tom Bowden, Chair for the past 3 year will pass the torch to Peggy on the June 23 Bike Virginia Tour. [caption id="attachment_8356" align="alignright" width="300"]Peggy White, Bike Virginia Chairwoman June 2014. Peggy White, Bike Virginia Chairwoman June 2014.[/caption] Peggy has served on the board for 2 years, and was honored to be selected as the next board leader. She is well versed in business and non-profits, as Peggy is the full time Executive Director of the Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce and operates the regional Visitor Center. Bike Virginia visited the New River Valley in 2011, and Peggy had her first exposure to the organization at that time as she helped make planning preparations for the annual bike tour.  She became a board member shortly thereafter because she saw the impact the event has on communities, and the potential for making very important and lasting change to Virginia through bicycling initiatives. When asked about her passion for the organization Peggy said,  "I love working with Dr. Kim Perry, and working with Bike VA when they were in the NRV was such a great experience I jumped at the opportunity to work with this organization again as a member of the board! I love the vision created by the leaders, and your focus this year to include women to achieve their cycling goals, as I know that this is a national trend. I want to be a part of making the Bike Virginia organization the biking hub for all the biking adventures offered in the state which is very doable with the new website project the organization is developing.  I’m looking forward to being a part of the upcoming fall ride in 2015 that will bring a new upscale experience to riders looking for something unique.  I personally want to be a part of a progressive organization that brings awareness to exercise, healthy lifestyles, showcases the beauty of all the different regions in VA and has fun doing it!" Please join us in a welcome to Peggy at the "Three Sweet Feet" Ice-Cream Social at Bike Virginia. Together we will celebrate her new role and celebrate the passing of Virginia's three foot passing law that will help ensure cyclists more road safety.
