Are you ready to go to the Shenandoah Valley? We are!
The staff at Bike Virginia, Shane, Kim, Sam and Cynthia are working away on planning details for the 2016 Bike Virginia Tour. There are lots of wonderful things to look forward to in the beautiful valley region.
Bike Virginia heads back to the central Blue Ridge June 24-29, 2016 for the 29th annual ride.
The scenic and historic Shenandoah Valley is part of the Great Valley which stretches from New York to Alabama. It lies between the Blue Ridge Mountains to the east, the Allegheny Mountains to the west, the Potomac River to the north, and the Roanoke Valley to the south.
Native American groups inhabited the Valley for nearly 11,000 years. European settlement began in the 1730s. Historically residents have been drawn by the fertile land. The Wilderness Road- Virginia’s Heritage Migration Route was the path of frontiersman Daniel Boone, and future presidents Adams, Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, and Jackson.
Riding in 2016’s Event
The bike riding in this region of Virginia is among the top favorite bike riding locations in the state. The roads tend to be quiet and rolling. The scenery includes beautiful mountains and waterways.
For the 2016 Bike Virginia Tour the riders will enjoy 6 days of riding with a total of over 300 miles of choices. Riders can pick from any one of the loops offered each day of the event. Loop sizes bike route distances range from 20-100. That means you can ride the way you want to ride.
Our events are fully supported with SAG vehicles along the way. We take care of signage along the roads so you can relax and enjoy the destinations that our expert staff have selected for you enjoyment.
Have Your Car Handy
Bike Virginia is a 6 day tour with weekend options, single day options, and a weekday option. We know how important it is to have access to your own transportation, in response we’ve created a formula for our event that puts you close to your car for the entire 6 days. We begin the ride on Friday in location 1 where we ride for 3 days. Location one for the 2016 Bike Virginia tour is Woodstock Virginia. On day 3 we move to our location 2, everyone moves by car, taking their bike and camping gear along. Location 2 for Bike Virginia for 2016 is Harrisonburg Virginia. On the last day of the event you can pack and leave as you like, no more waiting on gear trucks, no looking for luggage.
This “Double Vision” formula means you get twice the convenience, and all the 6 days of riding without having to sacrifice access and control over your gear. We still visit the same number of great routes and communities as a point to point ride or a “leave-the-car” behind ride, but give you the ability to use your car as you like.
Camping or Hotels
Cycling in Bike Virginia means that you get to pick, camp out or stay in hotels. Camping is included with rider registration. Local hotels are hand picked for those that prefer to sleep in the Air Conditioning. Participants can enjoy the simple one stop shopping for booking hotels with Alpine Cycle Connection, the event hotel concierge service.
